Lets get personal for a minute.
All growing up and high school I never. ever. worried about my weight. I am lucky enough that I never remember feeling depressed because of my pant size or trying to watch what I ate so I could fit in a smaller Prom dress.. I watched plenty of my friends do crash diets or had to comfort them over and over again when they thought they were fat. I was happy with myself, my hair, my body basically my whole self image was great. I could eat whatever I wanted, not work out and never gain a pound.

Fast forward to being married, turning 20 and still have the habits of eating what I want, when I want, and never working out.. But then something started to happen... weight started to show up.

** Now let me clear something up right now. I dont think I am fat. I know if you looked at me, a lot of you cant see a difference from my high school pictures to now... but there is a difference. A 20 pound difference, and enough that I have noticed a difference in my confidence. I struggle when I tell people I want to tone up or lose the weight I have gained since being married and they roll their eyes and tell me to not be stupid. Im not saying I have to be 100lbs or even have the body I had in high school. I just want to live a healthy life, tone up and feel confident with the body I have.**

Now the desire is there.. for sure, its been there for at least 2 years. But my motivation is what keeps putting up a road block. I am lucky enough that I LOVE running, like love running. I seriously feel like its great therapy, a nice stress reliever. I also love the elliptical, Zumba and Jillian Michaels dvds. Food is where I run into a problem, especially when I am married to someone that grew up in a house eating around the clock and is someone that cant gain weight to save his life (jealous). My self control with food is terrible! I have really good weeks and really bad weeks. I love my Diet Coke! However I know when I eat healthy and only drink water.. lots of water. I feel so great!

So here is the question.. how do you stay motivated and what are you favorite healthy snacks?
I should say healthy EASY snacks. I need something that is quick for me to grab and take to work with me.

amazing motivation

Okay so I am SO jealous you love running, cause I hate it. So maybe you should bring me along on your runs so I start liking it haha! But I can help with snacks!!

.Cheese and wheat thins, this is like my main lunch everyday. I buy the baby bell cheese or the small square cheese. It fills you up!
.Ben and I make LOTS of smoothies, great for you and they fill you so you don't snack as much.
.I try to keep fruit in the house at all times, mainly apples and bananas.
.100 calorie packs, THE best.

I feel you with loving food. I am a big foodie!

My two cents is to run more. It is the best cardio for you (gets you toned, burns more calories than any other cardio, stress-reliever, etc.) Obviously I might be a little biased...but the more you run you can even eat the same and lose weight! Best way to stay motivated to run is sign up for a race :)

I admire you for posting this chelsea! I'm struggling with the diet coke thing currently as well. Gets me every time!
Smoothies have become my new favorite thing. Load them up with fruit, protein powder, peanut butter etc., anything with protien in it, which helps you stay full longer.
You go girl!
Xoxo

It's the weirdest thing. I am the EXACT same way. I don't ever remember being worried about my weight or anything. I probably should have worried more about fashion and my hair, haha, but I was pretty fine with me and ate whatever. I think I was 19/20 too when all of the sudden weight started showing up and I realized I had to start making an effort. It stinks! And Derek and I are identical to you and mitch. Anyways, I feel like having lots of cut up fruit works well. I know too much fruit can be a bad thing, but it's better than bread and treats! I also enjoy cut veggies in hummus. But let's encourage each other cause I feel like we are all too similar! You can do it! Do have a good playlist of running songs? That's something I'm struggling with.

I too am the same way!!! I LOVE LOVE FOOD. Ice cream, baked goods, candy... they all call my name and it doesn't help that my husband eats junk too. I love to run also, but I have to remind myself, 4 miles doesn't make up for two bowls of ice cream :) It is a battle that I wish I had the answer to.

I wish I knew you were a runner when we worked together!!

I think I am finally figuring out what works for me. But I still have ups and downs. Sometimes I go through months I am really good and then I fall off the wagon for a couple of months and start eating cookies. Yes, cookies are my downfall! I am trying to learn that I can have one a week....just not one every day!
I keep an individual pack of almonds(purchased at Trader Joe's - you will have one soon :) and one of the mini 100 calorie Clif bars in my purse. That way if I am really hungry and I am not where I can get a healthy meal, I have a good snack on hand to tide me over so I don't end up eating really badly just because I am starved.
I eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Snaking on some veggies 30 minutes before lunch makes me eat a lot less.
I have found I need to treat myself too. My current favorite treat is a McDonalds ice cream cone. Only 150 calories and I feel like we went out for dessert! I also keep a few Jolly Ranchers in my purse. 40 calories each and they satisfy for a long time. Frozen mini York patties are good too for just a taste of sweet after dinner.
We keep some 300-400 calorie frozen meals in our freezer. (Trader Joe's has great ones with less preservatives and junk) We eat those a couple nights a week to help bring our caloric intake down for the week. I feel like it helps even thinks out so I can still go out for our Mexican food on Friday night! Hope that helps. Good luck!

My recommendation - don't try to eat foods that are solely low in calories - you'll just get hungry and that makes it harder. I like to eat 6 small meals a day and that keeps me pretty full as long as you eat the right stuff.

If you can make fruit your dessert, that also helps a TON . . . but it is hard :) Good luck! :)
